Flooding support available in Louth & Horncastle

Dear Constituent,

I am writing to you about the support that is available for households and businesses who were flooded as result of Storm Babet.

Storm Babet has affected homes, businesses and farms across the Louth & Horncastle constituency, and I have seen the devastating effects that it has had locally. My thoughts are with all those affected by this awful flooding, and I thank everyone who has helped from councillors, emergency workers, the drainage boards and charities to good neighbours looking after each other.

Since the storm, I have visited the sites of flooding and spoken to residents and businesses. Following these visits and conversations, I thought it may be helpful to set out the support that is available to constituents, businesses and households:

  • East Lindsey Flood Recovery Grant - up to £200 hardship funding. Delivered on behalf of East Lindsey District Council by Lincolnshire Community Foundation. Applications can be made via lincolnshirecf.co.uk or by calling 01529 305825 - until 30th November 2023.
  • Community Recovery Grant – up to £500 hardship funding. This funding is provided by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and distributed by East Lindsey District Council. Applications can be made by emailing communitysupport@e-lindsey.gov.uk
  • Council Tax Discount - 100% Council Tax relief for at least 3 months. This is funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and distributed by East Lindsey District Council. Applications can be made by emailing counciltax@e-lindsey.gov.uk or on 01507 601111; select “Council Tax” and hold to speak with an advisor.
  • Business Rates Relief - 100% Business Rates Relief for at least 3 months. This is funded by Central Government and distributed by East Lindsey District Council. Please contact East Lindsey District Council for further details on 01507 601111 selecting “Business Rates” or email businessrates@e-lindsey.gov.uk.

The Government has also announced two further schemes - we are waiting for information on how they are to be delivered.

  • Small-to-medium sized businesses in affected areas will be eligible for up to £2,500 from the Business Recovery Grant to help them return quickly to business as usual. It is anticipated that this will be delivered by East Lindsey District Council; and
  • Eligible flood-hit property owners will be able to apply for up to £5,000 to help make their homes and businesses more resilient to future flooding via the Property Flood Resilience Repair Grant Scheme. It is anticipated that this will be delivered by Lincolnshire County Council.

Further details on how these schemes will operate will be available on East Lindsey’s website (e-lindsey.gov.uk) and Lincolnshire County Council’s website (lincolnshire.gov.uk). Once they open, I will also post information on how to apply on my website, victoriaatkins.org.uk, and Facebook page, facebook.com/VictoriaAtkinsOfficial. If you do not have access to the internet but would like to be informed of when these schemes are live, please contact my office on 01507 527 017.

I encourage everyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply to the schemes available. Please do pass on this information of the support measures to those you know have been affected.

If you have any questions on support, please do not hesitate to contact my office at victoria@victoriaatkins.org.uk or on 01507 527 017.

Yours sincerely,

Victoria Atkins
